Millstone

"Millstone," is one of four paintings in the Common Journeys series. Watercolor, gouache, India ink.

"This four-piece series represents a journey that I have observed is common to others. For me, it is one that I have experienced in my work as an artist, in this particular order, as depicted in four paintings:

Millstone: a thought or seemingly insurmountable challenge hanging over your head.

Interference: someone or something that is preventing the millstone from being overcome.

Rebellion: defying the interfering circumstance.

Watershed: the rush of that moment of passage and relief stemming from the surety that one is moving in the right direction, earned through tenacity and independence.
