Carolina Reverb
Carolina Reverb, selected for two juried art exhibitions, is an abstract work depicting the evolution of the South Carolina textile industry. The large disk at the bottom represents the state, with the evolving nests or incubators filled with the seeds of hope, representing the 17 cotton mills in the Anderson County in the early 20th century. The shape resembling a flourishing stalk continues reaching upward, passing indications of homes representing the thousands of families who worked to sustain and were supported by the textile industry over the decades, finally topped with 3D capsules, some intact and some bursting with color much as a seed would, symbolizing the new growth to come. The piece is “framed” by two early 20th century, American made cotton spools thought to have been used in the Newry Cotton Mill in nearby Oconee County. The work is approximately 19 x 45 inches. Created by Kim Keelor of Carolina Artworks.
