Carolina Artworks by Kim Keelor

Original art created in fiber, textiles, or paint, with a focus on the ancient process of wool felting. I work and teach in North and South Carolina. I am a resident artist at the Cowee School Arts and Heritage Center in Franklin, North Carolina, in the heart of the southern Appalachian Mountains.

When We Had Winter

"When We had Winter" consists of a romanticized two-panel wintery scene. They are topped with antique ice skating blades from the 1800s the artist discovered in the upstate of South Carolina. As the climate changes, some things we enjoyed in the upper portion of the Southeastern U.S. in winters past may have to be preserved in our memories, and in our art, for future generations. This piece is wet and needle felted (with sculptural features) out of wool and recycled silk, mounted on panels.
